San Francisco, CA
San Francisco’s Moscone Center, a Southland Industries project, recently received platinum certification from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), the most widely used green building rating system in the world. With the largest rooftop solar panel array in San Francisco and an innovative rainwater harvesting and water treatment system, the Moscone Center scored 90 out of a possible 111 points to make it the highest-scoring LEED convention center in the world.
Southland Industries partnered with general contractor Webcor to provide design-assist mechanical and plumbing preconstruction and construction services for the project. That scope included the design and construction of the aforementioned rainwater harvesting and water treatment system, which recovers over 15 million gallons of water annually for reuse in landscaping, street cleaning and toilet flushing.
Southland’s subsidiary company Envise was also instrumental in the effort, assisting with the water treatment system design and providing building automation and controls.
